I recently joined the Biblical Archeology Society and this is what happened: I get invited to a on-line conference featuring a Professor of Gnosticism! APRIL D. DECONICK is her name. She has high praises for gnosticism so I decided to follow a few links and see what the fuss is about. Sure enough here it is- an excerpt from an interview she did for her 2017 book on gnosticism.
She claims that gnostics invented a "new spirituality" distinct from all ancient religions.
From the interview: "Humans, they thought, contained an actual piece of the transcendent God within them, and they called it the human spirit. This piece of God is what makes humans transcendent, capable of journeying beyond their bodies, beyond their world, to a place of utter Good and Light, which is their source. This journey home and integration with God transforms and empowers the human initiates to externalize the God Within, to become gods on earth, to make their own choices based on conscience rather than obedience to gods and kings."
This is garbage - gnostics didn't invent this idea of an inner God- Plato had been talking similar ideas for hundreds of years.
What the gnostics invented was the belief that the earth is a prison made by an evil demiurge. That's their sole original thought. Oddly, they still want to live forever. They just want total control of the prison.
What the gnostics want they cannot have, but they may destroy everything trying to have it. Since they must die, total control of the planet is a consolation prize I guess. Their "conscience" tells them they are better than the rest of us, because they are GODS! Call them Lord!
Here's another quote: (link to entire interview below) "This rediscovery of ancient gnostic literature has resulted in the redistribution of gnostic ideas into American culture and has fed the growth of new religious movements like Theosophy, the psychological program of Carl Jung, and even the New Age movement."
Theosophy was a blatant fraud (Madame Blavatsky) started by British Freemasons and it inspired the Nazi's. The Freemason's magazine was called The New Age, no wonder New Age is everywhere. Hey some of it is fine I guess. Carl Jung had sex with all of his female patients and has hidden his papers away and he lied in his autobiography- a book that makes him saint-like. Its great- I read it back in the day...but...another HOAX! O yeah- he was pals with Allen Dulles and an early supporter of the Nazi's...he was Swiss, and has kept this part of his life well hidden.
Gnosticism continues to be rebranded as hip, cool and even therapeutic! I'm disappointed in the BAS for going all in on the trend. I won't attend the on-line conference because it costs $200! I'm sure they won't be coming forward with the fact that gnostics consider the entire earth evil so morality is pointless. I'm hip that life is dreamlike and even a simulation (to use the modern term) but it is REAL and GOOD and is a school for our souls to learn to love, and be happy without being a monster, and to be creative. Perhaps we slowly become as God but earthly life is just a part of that process. Gnosticism seems to encourage hate and the tearing down of what is, in order to make an impossible perfect world.
